About the Site
Candleston Campsite extends to 15 acres, and includes access to a further 40 acres of the adjoining wood in which to walk, play and explore.
The site is flexible enough to accommodate a variety of event sizes without feeling either too spacious or too cramped, and can be configured to suit your event.
Unlike traditional campsites we don’t have numbered pitches, forests of signage, over-manicured spaces, or cars dotted about.
What we do have is a site where you will feel immersed in nature and surrounded by the resident wildlife!
A key feature of the woodland is that it is based on sand and is free of mud in even the wettest conditions, so no wellies are required!
Candleston Campsite is located in South Wales on the Glamorgan Heritage Coast, 20 miles west of Cardiff, in the picturesque thatched village of Merthyr Mawr.
We are 5 miles from J35 of the M4, and 2.5 miles from the nearest mainline railway station at Bridgend (two and a half hours from London).
The site is situated in an Historic Landscape, on the edge of the 840 acre Merthyr Mawr National Nature Reserve, a rolling expanse of sand dunes, dune grassland and woodland, fronted by a 1.5km sandy beach.
The campsite, together with the village, nature reserve and surrounding land all form part of Merthyr Mawr Estate.
Was here for the “Between the trees” festival. Lovely relaxed venue and events. Much more than music.. family, good friends, art, natural science, serene woodlands and everyone so chilled.
